Receiving GRE Scores

Ways to receive GRE scores

The GRE program offers authorized score users a choice of FREE score reporting in one of three convenient ways — online through the ETS® Data Manager, via automated server-to-server feeds and as paper reports.

Scores online through the ETS® Data Manager

The ETS Data Manager provides fast, on-demand, secure access for approved users to applicants' GRE score information and more. You can:

  • do quick lookups of individual score reports
  • view and download rosters of test takers, including score data
  • download data in multiple formats, including Microsoft® Excel, PDF and the Scorelink® service
  • easily sort and filter data
  • view test-taker photos and Analytical Writing essay responses
  • view quick summary data reports
  • create custom summary data reports
  • print just the score reports you need
  • receive email notification when new applicant scores are added
  • receive automated server-to-server data feeds

The ETS Data Manager is web-based, requires no additional software and is updated multiple times per week with the latest applicant data.

See a sample Official Graduate Institution score report (PDF) in the ETS Data Manager.

Scores via automated server-to-server feeds

Automatically download test-taker scores from the ETS server to a client server. Using server-to-server feeds requires a one-time setup by the institution's IT or technology staff. Data files containing GRE scores are made available approximately twice a week via the internet.

Paper score reports

GRE paper score reports feature the ETS Security Guard, a special heat-sensitive ink that, when activated, verifies the report’s authenticity. Paper reports are mailed approximately twice a week throughout the entire testing year. Reports can be sorted either alphabetically by the test taker's name within the institution or within the major field or department designated by the test taker.

What information do score reports include?

For all score delivery methods, score reports include the test taker's GRE scores, mailing address, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender and intended graduate major.

Score Reporting Record Layout

Scores reported via the Scorelink Internet Delivery Service or the automated server-to-server feeds are made available to score recipients using a standard record layout.

Institutions implementing an electronic score reporting delivery method should review the optional score reporting record layout (PDF) and sample data file to ensure systems are properly configured to receive the data.

Before using the sample data file for testing, the institution code, institution name and institution type fields should be modified to include your specific institutional information.
